Earlier editions the worthy/not worthy aspect of it was the legit explanation This is a retcon made by End Times, of course. The “worthy/not worthy” story was a cover up for the fact they actually didn’t know why Malekith had seemingly been rejected, and decided to cheat rather than risk it happening again. But Aenarion apparently forgot to write a memo to his son on what to expect, so when Malekith started getting burned he thought he was being rejected, and didn’t continue through the flames like he was supposed to.Īfter that, the priests of Assuryan came up with a potion to protect everyone who subsequently walked through the Flames, so they were never actually subject to them, and that is why they didn’t get burned. In actually, he was supposed to be burned to ashes, then reborn on the other side like a Phoenix.
